Pasifika Styles launches in Cambridge, UK, in April 2006, when twenty of New Zealand's leading young artists will descend on the University's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology for the opening of a major exhibition showcasing their work alongside the UK's second-largest Pacific collection.

"This is the first time contemporary work from New Zealand will have a major prescence in Britain", says co-curator Rosanna Raymond.

Artists whose work is featured in the show include Ani O'Neill, John Ioane, Shigeyuki Kihara, Reuben Paterson, Lisa Reihana, Greg Semu, Michel Tuffery, Niki Hastings-McFall, George Nuku, Maureen Lander, Tracey Tawhiao, Jason Hall and Wayne Youle.

"We are excited to be able to invite the artists to come and engage with the Museum's collections", says Amiria Henare, one of the Museum's anthropology curators.

While in Cambridge the artists will run workshops, give talks and performances, and study priceless historical taonga from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand and other parts of Polynesia, many of which were collected on the voyages of Captain Cook.

Running for one week in October 2006, the Pasifika Styles Performing Arts Festival will present a selection of the best of contemporary Pacific Island and Maori performance together with an interactive programme of seminars and street performances. For the first time ever in the UK, the Festival will offer a wide audience the chance to venture on a journey into the unfamiliar, beautiful, disturbing and provoking world of contemporary Maori and Pacific Island performing arts.

A fundraising auction of visual artists' work is to be held in Auckland on the 25th October 2005.
