I am looking for a London chef/catering company/restaurant owner that
is interested in hangi food. 2 years ago 4 of us coussies from Sydney
developed a portable hangi oven (similar to the Italian outdoor cooking
oven) that reproduces the genuine Maori underground
"earthy-hangi" taste. It can easily cook for 20 people or 120
people, 30 stories up, in a desert, or on the deck of a yacht 50 miles out
at sea. You don't need a hole in the ground anymore! We have staged a Kiwi
paddock (with Maori entertainment) inside a dining room for a black tie
dinner for 30. The difference is we incorporate international cuisine and
use flavours/menus from around the world which takes the hangi food taste
to a totally different level. The oven is versatile enough to cook mussels
in garlic, wine and cream for the last 10 minutes of the 3 hour cycle,
lamb is marinated in Mediterranean oil and herbs and stuffed with mango
and oyster chutney. Pork is marinated for 24 hours inside an oriental
sauce. contact@nzedge.com

I am doing some research about NZ and what is unique about it in the
modern world. It seems that NZ is known for its natural life, sheep, bungy
jumping and rugby. Is this still the case in 2007 or are some of the
innovations in film, fashion, technology etc creating a new face for NZ.
If so, how has the perception of NZ changed throughout the world and what
is the unique selling point of NZ now? It would be great if you could help
me with this or point me in the right direction - are there some great new
businesses that are changing the image of NZ globally? Are there any
websites or books I could look at? I am also interested in individual
people's point of view on this topic - any personal thoughts would also be
brilliant. Thank you. From one kiwi to another. contact@nzedge.com

publications in US, UK, Australia and NZ. I'm currently working on a

a landed immigrant. Thank you for helping me dream a little more clearly.

We came to OZ in '99, thought we'd give it five years see how we go, make
some money, and eventually return home. Well, it's going on seven years
now, and ever since we arrived here, we've wanted to return back home,
BUT, the only thing that has kept us here has been the money and the
opportunities. After three years we brought our first home, all with one
income and three kids. We are now looking at selling up, we're a bit
nervous, no jobs to return to, have the people changed? It is a big risk
but at least now we'll have enough for a deposit for our own home back in
NZ (providing we can find work, or if I can find an opportunity to run
with). My reason for returning home...My 3 boys, are 9, 6 & 5, the two
little ones have never been to NZ, I haven't returned once since I left,
couldn't afford to, not even when my youngest brother passed away. So, for
me it will be a bitter-sweet return.

All through the years gangs have been a menace to society they are only
strong because of the family structure they offer to those who have in
some way or another lost their natural family. Of course gangs turn to
crime and drugs as a source of easy and quick income. It is all they know
as that is what they grew up with. First it was weed that was the main
source of income for gangs and still is in some cases now with the
introduction of ice and Asian gangs they have been forced to change their
tactics it is as we call it a movement of the times. You say you are
trying to stop it but how can you the income from drugs is too great and
when a new product phases in that will take over ice that's life. What you
should do is start funding initiatives for gang members to stop the cycle
from continuing and set up places where youths will feel like they're in a
family sure have the gangs but have them with a proper income from a legit
business and find a new buzz to replace the drugs. People take drugs and
etc because of something that's missing in their life. You will never stop
the supply till you stop the demand for it.

Answer from Denis O'Reilly: You are right. Family (real family) is the
answer and demand reduction the sustainable strategy (although there needs
to be some kickass for those that won't play ball). D.

Greetings. I am writing a novel, based on times when I lived in New
Zealand, and wish I still did. How many nautical miles from Cape Reinga to
Wellington is my question. Thank you for any help, I am unable to find the
answer and my books do not give enough info to render an answer.

Nice to read and see something about home. I have not seen home since 84
when I brought my Canadian wife home for a vacation, Left NZ in 1970 when
stage one of Manapouri was finishing and Utah mining and Construction
finished their part of the project. I really enjoyed it down there. Now
work on overhaul and repair of aircraft gas turbines engine from all over
the world. Sorry to hear about the guys at Air NZ. It's getting mighty
rough out there in this business.

My partner - who is Kiwi - and I are currently living in NZ. Even though
we both enjoy it here, I know he misses NZ and has become prouder of his
home country than ever wearing All Blacks Jersey etc. There is one T-shirt
he really likes that is not too cheesy and represents NZ. It's a pale blue
T-shirt with the Kiwi Air Force Logo. I have seen some people in NZ
wearing it but I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know the brand and
where I can could get one? contact@nzedge.com

Feed back on our government in New Zealand refusing a knighthood to Nancy
Wake. My family and I express our disgust the way the older generation

Your ideas here in have really opened my eyes to what I can do to help
NZ´s image overseas. I was so happy to read your ideas on NZ tourism and
living in Sweden can see your comments are too true and the image must be
changed for own country's benefit. I wonder if there is any other Kiwis in
Sweden who belong to this site, and have a large interest in promoting NZ
tourism in Sweden. It could be great to put our heads together a work out
a plan for over here in Sweden. If you able to get me a contact it would
be great. Thank you very much for your input, and hope to hear back soon -

To Russ from Australia, At least Kiwis try to be original. Hey, why don't
you guys stop trying to claim that any talented Kiwis are Australian when
it suits you....Furthermore we have better race relations than you guys in
Aussie look at how you treat Aboriginals and how about the compassion or
lack of it your government has for refugees. It's funny how your dis our
rugby team when we have such a small population and a lot less money than
Australia to spend on sport...I could go on but it's a waste of time
trying to explain to someone who is so narrow minded...visit NZ sometime
hey you never know you may like it.

I started NYC's first authentic NZ meat pie bakery in December 2003 and
have just opened the first of what we hope will be a series of pie shops
in NYC. The first shop - LET THEM EAT PIE - is in Brooklyn - we had a soft
opening a week ago and haven't even added the info to the website we're so
new! Not only do we have the best pies in the US - but we make a mean flat
white - one of the few places to do it right in NYC! We've had some
exceptional press - NY Times, NY Post, NY Newsday, NZ's Cuisine Magazine -
and much more - see details at the press page of the site http://www.dubpies.com

A comment on P. I write monthly articles for a student magazine and am
interested in writing about the effects of P in regards to human behaviour
(in regards to violence, if anyone has the guts to share particularly
medical professionals, long term damage to the brain (specifics),
treatment (if any exists) and how can whanau help a loved one through this
shit of an experience...anything else is crap. Now, I don't use drugs...I
hesitate when my GP prescribes panadol or heartburn tablets but I am very
concerned that our govt is not doing anything to educate our people as
most govts in regards to indigenous people. I broke down in tears when I
found out what the British and the Americans did to the indigenous people
from the Marshall Islands. Thousands are dying of cancer.

I am searching for a stylised logo incorporating both our silver fern and
kiwi, with the silver fern shaped in the form of a kiwi. I want to use it

anyone know of someone who can provide such a design, or has it already
been produced. I am sure that I have seen it on a sports uniform of one of

Great site but feeds the small minded Kiwi with all the bull shit he needs
to carry on with all this "Gods Own Land" crap. New Zealand is a
small dot on the earth that most of the globe don't know exists - it is
governed by a lesbian laughing stock and has a wanker like Winston Peters
ripping tax payers money from under them. Who cares about Rugby Union and
its "All Blacks", who gives a rats toss bag about the America's
Cup?
I lived in N.Z. for some years and have a good laugh each time I return
to see my family, it is a backward country and its people speak with
shocking accents. BEST IN THE WORLD, leave your little island and get out
in the real world - you may like what you see.

Alexander Aitken was my father's advisor during the time that my father
completed his PhD in 1948 at Edinburgh university - see Edwin Robert
Dalziel at the Mathematics Genealogy Project on the internet. His PhD was
A Study of the Inter Relations of the Different Methods of Fitting
Frequency curves to Observational Data - Statistics. Like Professor Aitken
my father attended Otago Boys High and won scholarships to attend
University. He also won scolarships to attend Edinburgh University where
he completed his PhD. My father also had a photographic memory and was
told that he could have studied anything he wanted at university. He would
talk about Professor Alec Aitken being invaluable because my father didn't
know what to write about and Alex gave him the guidance needed to complete
his PhD.

Tony, Author, Southampton, Great Britain
One of the unsung NZ heroes is Dan Bryant, the first New Zealander to go
to Mount Everest - in 1935. I have written the book about this 5th British
expedition to the mountain and Sir Edmund Hillary wrote the introduction
to it. It tells the complete story of the fifth expedition to Mount
Everest led by Eric Shipton over 70 years ago and since remained untold,
but now completes the history of the highest mountain in the world which
continues to captivate the imagination of climbers - young and old.
During twelve years research I found the diaries of six of the seven
team members and have used these to recount this delightful mountaineering
adventure. Shipton and Tilman introduced their 'alpine style' to the world
of mountaineering. Sherpa Tensing was just nineteen years old and took his
first chance to join an Everest expedition. The body of Maurice Wilson,
the Everest aviator was found abandoned on the mountain. An avalanche on
the North Col could have proved disastrous. Two dozen first ascents of
Himalayan peaks over 20,000 ft. were made in "an orgy of
mountaineering". The foreword is by Lord Hunt who led the first
ascent in 1953 and the introduction is by Sir Edmund Hillary. Best wishes,
Tony Astill.

part of both the 2006 Next Wave Festival and the Cultural Program of the

over the world to film / video an hour length sun set, as the sky changes
from light to dark. Each place has been selected according to the 24 hour
time zone chronology of the Greenwich Mean Time World Clock. I am
