Speedshear fundraiser

Te Kuiti veteran shearing champion David Fagan will join current World Champion Cam Ferguson, 1994 World Champion Alan MacDonald and 1984 World Champion Tom Wilson amongst others in a Speedshear to raise funds for families of the 29 Pike River mining disaster victims. The Speedshear will be held at Dawson’s Hotel in Reefton on December 11. As news of the event spread globally Shearing Sports New Zealand received an inquiry about how to donate and how to bid for a signed singlet worn by Fagan when he won his 16th Golden Shears open victory in 29. Co-organiser and former New Zealand team manager Gavin Rowland said the shearers’ response had been unhesitating, and all were keen to do their part for the cause, as were sponsors. “It is possibly the greatest gathering of New Zealand’s top shearers in a Speedshear for a few years, and one that probably won’t be repeated,” Rowland said.
