Underground Stars
“The world renowned Waitomo Glowworm Caves should be high on any visitor’s wish-list,” recommends Monsters & Critic’s writer Jennie Radue. “The most obvious difference between the Waitomo Glowworm and its European counterpart is that the light they emanate is more blue than green,” Radue continues. Radue also takes a tour of the Glowworm Grotto on the banks of Lake Te Anau and the limestone caves at Te Wahipounamu National Park, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 199. “One young couple from Germany [visiting the Te Anau site] describe their underground boat trip as ‘unbelievably romantic and solemn’ when they return to the surface.”
