No Fake Jamaican Accents, Thanks

Wellington eight-piece band The Black Seeds – described by Clash Magazine as, “one of the best live reggae acts on the planet” – play the fourth Perisher Snowy Mountains of Music Festival in Australia in June. The Brisbane Times’ Sean Palmer talks to Black Seeds’ guitarist and producer Mike Fabulous. “The Black Seeds regularly perform at many of Europe’s biggest festivals. But there is a healthy respect for reggae’s true elements that were established in Jamaica in the late 1960s. ‘One thing the band has always been very clear about is we are not a bunch of Jamaicans,’ Fabulous says. ‘We are a bunch of white guys and no-one has even put on a fake Jamaican accent like some people do, or any of that.’” The Black Seeds formed in 1998.
