Not Alone at Being Alone

A message in a bottle tossed into the sea by a group of children from Katikati Primary School has washed up over a year later in Oceanside Harbor, California. Seventy-seven-year-old Sonja van Hall, who kayaks nearly every day in the harbour, discovered her first “message in bottle” last week after a decade of hoping to find one, then found a second one a few minutes later. “Hello, future, this letter was typed in May 2012,” one message read. “A great time to live in – we have so many cool things these days,” wrote 10-year-old Sean Pfennig. “It was a bubble for me – it was the biggest thing,” van Hall said.
