Glowing Gold at Grammys
New Zealand pop star Kimbra, 22, has won two Grammy Awards for record of the year and best pop duo/group with Australian musician Gotye. “Somebody That I Used To Know” was the top-selling digital song of 2012, moving 6.8 million units in the U.S. alone. It was also the top-streamed song of the year, clocking 45 million plays, according to Nielsen’s year-end music industry report. Kimbra’s idol Prince presented the pair the Record of the Year award. “The fact that he gave us an award. I have no words … it’s crazy,” Hamilton-born Kimbra told The New Zealand Herald. Other New Zealanders to win Grammys include Dame Kiri Te Kanawa for The Marriage of Figaro in 1984, Wellington-based composers Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement in 2008 and two-time recipient, jazz arranger Alan Broadbent.
