What the Royals Are Taking in on Their NZ Tour
As Prince William, Kate Middleton – and Prince George – head to New Zealand on an official tour, the Telegraph looks at all the places they are visiting asking their own experts, as well as our own, what the royal family should see when touring the country, as opposed to what they will be doing during April.
Auckland-born Monica Galetti, senior sous-chef at London’s Le Gavroche and MasterChef presenter, recommends picking oysters on Waiheke Island, while Prime Minister John Key offers a guide to Queenstown, including his favourite sights, hotels, bars and restaurants.
The Telegraph’s wine writer Robert Joseph favours a trip to “the wide-open valley of Marlborough, with its backdrop of the green, folded-blanket hills that feature on the Cloudy Bay label, and the nearby Marlborough Sounds, one of the world’s best places to fish or mess around on a boat.”
The Royals have confirmed a Plunket meeting in Wellington; a World War One Aviation commemorative event at Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre accompanied by film-maker Sir Peter Jackson; a touch rugby tournament at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin; a white water ride on the Shotover River; and attendance at an event to commemorate the 185 victims of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
