Queenstown Airport to Open New International Terminal

“New Zealand’s Queenstown Airport (…) is turning to be the busiest and the fastest-growing in the country (and) is set to become the third bigger as it opens the new international terminal”, writes Kalyan Kumar for the International Business Times.

The new space “gives huge confidence to handle the new volumes and provide a service level of high quality to inbound and outbound passengers deserved”, said Scott Paterson Queenstown Airport Corporation chief executive.

“Key features include two new gate lounges which continue the theme of stunning floor-to-ceiling alpine views, a new state-of-the-art Customs processing area, expanded airside retail outlets, a third baggage carousel and back-of-house handling areas”, according to Scoop.co.nz.

“Being able to offer a top-class facility in a world-renowned destination has strengthened our position as a key regional and international gateway for New Zealand,” said Paterson.

In addition the airport, which welcomes more than 1.3 million visitors a year, is planning to expand its hours of operation in order to tackle the demands of the new growth.

The terminal will be officially opened at a private function on July 01 – 20 years after receiving its first international flight in 1995.
