Burlesque Dancer Bonita Muntz off to Vegas
Christchurch burlesque artist Bonita Muntz, who performs as Bonita Danger Doll, is the first New Zealander selected to perform at the Las Vegas Burlesque Festival, held over three days, from 8-10 October.
“This will be my first performance in America and I’m the first Kiwi to perform at this event. No-one from Australia was selected this year so I’m the only person from this part of the world,” Muntz says.
The Las Vegas Burlesque Festival features 60 performers selected to appear from around the world.
“I applied to go,” Muntz says. “I sent three routines over and was lucky enough to have one selected. It’s called Flight, it’s big and pink with a large butterfly headpiece and wings, set to a classical piece of music. It’s slow and graceful.”
Muntz has been performing burlesque for five years, having started in her late 20s. She chose the pseudonym Danger Doll by combining her doll nickname with her love of high octane motorsports.
Billed as “Aphrodite in Fishnets” and an international burlesque showgirl, Muntz is also a singer, make-up artist, runs an online boutique, produces events, dresses up as a princess for children’s parties – “that’s PG” – and three nights a week leads a growing group of Cantabrians in Burlesqueicise dance fitness classes.
