Alan Brunton: Mystic Gold From the Edge

NZ performance artist Alan Brunton (57) died while touring Europe with his Red Mole theatre troupe, “[depriving] NZ letters of its one truly iconic radical figure.” Coming to prominence in the late 70s as one of the emerging young artists to rally against established literary norms and perceived elitism, The Independent paints Brunton as a radical, ideologically committed and extraordinary figure, an unlikely hero amidst NZ’s sporting giants and  technological achievers:  “Brunton gave New Zealand a huge vein of mystic gold.”
