A New Zealand Winter
“You could go to Europe this summer, overpay for plane tickets and stand in line for three hours waiting to get into the Louvre so you can see the Mona Lisa.” Or you could travel to a “destination that doesn’t get inundated with tourists during the summer,” writes Graham Averill for Outside Magazine.
One of these destinations is New Zealand. When it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere it’s winter in New Zealand and the country becomes surprisingly affordable off-season.
Travelling around New Zealand in a campervan is one of the best ways to see what the country has to offer according to Averill. Off-season rates to hire a campervan can be half the cost of what it would be in December.
For those who don’t quite enjoy travelling in a campervan Averill recommends the Takatu Lodge and Vineyard north of Auckland or the Magic Cottages on the Takou River.
Other destinations you should consider visiting off-season are the below.
1. Bonaire
2. South Africa
3. Puerto Vallarta
4. Lake Tahoe
