BMW to Help Build NZ’s Electric Vehicle “Highway”

German automaker BMW has partnered with national charging network Charge Net NZ to help “build an electric highway of fast-charging stations to help overcome one of the main obstacles to electric vehicle uptake”, as reported in the Global Times.

As part of the partnership the two companies would install more than 100 DC stations around New Zealand, which “would enable electric vehicle (EV) drivers to travel right across New Zealand through the installation of a fast charging highway.”

“A big barrier preventing households and businesses from choosing EVs is the limited availability of public charging infrastructure. Increasing the number of charging stations will give New Zealanders the confidence to use EVs for longer distance travelling,” said Transport Minister Simon Bridges in a statement.

“I truly believe that the electrification of the fleet is the future of New Zealand, and BMW is showing impressive leadership by offering such a range of plug-in vehicles, and supporting the New Zealand market so actively,” said Charge Net NZ CEO Steve West, as reported on Scoop.

“BMW’s generous support is helping Charge Net NZ secure this future for New Zealand and it’s fantastic to see such a commitment to developing Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure in New Zealand.”
