Now retired, his diverse career included founding housing charity Shelter, running Friends of the Earth, acting as Chairman of the Campaign for Freedom of Information, managing Paddy Ashdown’s Liberal Democrats election campaign, serving on the English Cricket Board, and enjoying a lengthy stint as Director of Corporate and Public Affairs for airport giant BAA.
