Doomed for Success
“Doom may be by the numbers … But those numbers add up to the most cleverly engineered video-game movie made to date.” Starring NZ actor Karl Urban and NZ affiliated Dwayne Johnson (aka “The Rock”), Doom has impressed critics and film-goers with its innovative take on the game-to-movie genre, if not for its intricate plot and characters. During his promotional run for the film, The Rock (who spent time in Grey Lynn as a child and whose mother is Samoan) spoke to NZ’s Sunday Times about his origins: “My Samoan heritage is extremely important to me … I don’t get to see them as often as I would like to but the love is there, and to all my family in NZ, talofa lava.”
