Marathon a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Twelve years ago, New Zealand-born endurance athlete Janette Murray-Wakelin was told she had six months to live after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, she’s in the midst of running a marathon every day for an entire year. That’s 42.2km for 365 days in a row – fuelled entirely by a raw vegan diet.
The 64-year-old ticked over the 300-marathon mark late last month, and her 68-year-old husband Alan Murray has been with her every step of the way in their charity crusade around Australia.
Promoting the health benefits of a plant-based diet isn’t the only reason behind their charity mission.
They also want to spread the message about being compassionate towards animals and warn about the negative environmental impacts linked to the mass consumption of meat, milk and eggs.
Their 15,403-km RunRAW2013 campaign will end on 31 December when they make their way into Melbourne’s Federation Square.
