Promoting an Egalitarian Workplace with a Global Approach

Originally from Hastings, Todd Lauchlan, 41, is Indonesia country head at property consulting company Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL). He talks with the Jakarta Post about his role at the firm and how an egalitarian workplace is vital to reducing cultural barriers.

Lauchlan’s primary job is to win and secure more work for the firm, overseeing all its business activities, from corporate marketing to presentations and seminars. “Building relationships with new and existing clients is of great importance,” he said.

“Everyone in the firm really needs to work hand-in-hand to reach common goals. An egalitarian approach works best to build strong corporate culture while reducing cultural barriers in the workplace.

“As a New Zealander, I’m not trying to be any different in any environment. Just be myself, but I’m conscious of other cultures.”

Under Lauchlan’s guidance, JLL Indonesia is currently working on dozens of projects in more than 10 locations, with offices operated in Jakarta, Bali and Surabaya.
